Wow, when I initially started planning for this post about a month ago I had 2-3 pretty good titles on my list to write about. But since then the list of most anticipated shows to stream for this spring/summer has grown! There are a ton of great shows out there to watch and most of them are great to watch while partaking in a little marijuana medicine!
We’ve listed only some of the awesome shows coming out and we haven’t even included movies, so stay tuned to our blog for upcoming posts with our picks for the best theater and streaming movies that will surely keep you entertained through the whole summer!
Before we get started … for new medical marijuana users, we’ve noted some of the series that might be a little too dramatic or intense if you’re still getting used to the feeling from partaking. For those shows, we recommend watching them without having taken any weed first.
After the international seismic success of ‘Game of Thrones‘, it’s no surprise that ‘House of Dragon’ tops our list of shows we’re most excited to see. Created by George R. R. Martin and available on HBO, this series serves as the prequel to GOT. And let’s face it: just about anything HBO puts out is worth watching. Die-hard GOT fans are chomping at the bit for the series premiere date, August 21.
But we will say that if you’re not a huge GOT fan, some of the names and storylines might be a little confusing. Best to start with the original series before jumping into this prequel.
The hit comedy-mystery series is back with Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez reprising their roles as crime podcast fans-turned-murder investigators. Season 1 was hailed by critics and viewers alike for its hilarious script, comedic timing, and chemistry between the lead actors. And with Steve Martin and Martin Short, you really can’t miss it. Throw in a young but fierce female lead, Ms. Gomez, and you have the recipes for a hit series.
Still, we’re wondering – no spoilers here – what season 2’s premise will be since season 1 was … well, kind of complete. But with such talent behind Hulu’s popular series, we’re sure it will be just as good!
You can also catch Selena hosting the May 14, 2022 episode of Saturday Night Live.
Truth be told, I never got into ‘This is Us’. It was just one of those series I knew would be moving and slightly intense. Friends of mine have raved about it, so I know one of these days (weekends with cruddy weather) I’ll take the time to binge-watch this one. Still, it’s wildly popular and season 6 is one that is highly anticipated by fans and viewers of the series.
The NBC drama series centers around a family with three adult children – two biological and one adopted who is of a different race (the adult character played by Sterling K. Brown). The series mainly plays out in the present with flashbacks to when the children were young. It touches on family dynamics, race and race within a family, life, and loss. The acting is outstanding and the storylines are all ones we can relate to – and are supposed to.
Might be a little dramatic for new MMJ users.
Ahh, how could we leave this series off the list?! Even though some of the characterizations are off a bit, we can’t help but love the backdrop of the Lake, the Ozarks in general and the Missouri folks in this dark crime series on Netflix. This 4th and final season is split into two parts, with the first one being released with the entire season 4 on January 21, 2022.
The series has an overall rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes and continues the drama of Marty and Wendy Byrde and their family as they navigate the unpredictable landscape of illegal drug trafficking, money laundering, and the actual waters of Lake of the Ozarks. The final season seeks to wrap everything up which seems like a huge challenge given how season 3 ended (that’s all I’m gonna say – no spoilers here!). Watch out for the incomparable, Julia Garner, playing Ruth Langmore to perfection. Jason Bateman and Laura Linney round out this stellar cast.
There is a lot of violence in this series, so new MJ users take note.
If you’re not familiar with Elizabeth Holmes and the Theranos debacle in Silicon Valley we urge you not to read up on anything about the story until you see this series! Not too long ago Elizabeth Holmes was the darling of Silicon Valley with her ambitious and revolutionary company, Theranos – which sought to streamline blood testing and make it affordable and available to everyone wherever and whenever they wanted/needed.
Sounds great, right? Well, ‘sought’ – as in past tense – was the operative word in the above description. Needless to say her company and its life-changing goal are no longer and Ms. Holmes is facing prison time for fraud and deception.
We’ll say no more because the story in between this broad synopsis is nothing short of utterly unbelievable! With Amanda Seyfried (‘Mamma Mia’ and ‘Mean Girls’) playing the lead, this Disney+ series is a must-see-while-high or otherwise!
Season 2 of this period drama from executive and powerhouse producer Shonda Rhimes is the most streamed English-speaking series on Netflix since its release in late March 2022. Which only seems right given the immense popularity of Bridgerton’s first season. The series is set in the early 1800s in England and follows the nobility and aristocracy of the time.
Besides the sleek and sexy nature of the production and actors, what is really notable in this series is the casting of actresses/actors from all different ethnic backgrounds. It’s truly refreshing to see a series cast the best actor, rather than including appearance as a prerequisite for a role.
The storyline at first seems like something out of a Jane Austen novel but after watching you see it’s far more scandalous than any of her stories! Like Austen’s works, the story involves families set to marry off their daughters to husbands from good families.
Though the weather is getting nice, there will still be plenty of time to watch (or binge-watch!) these series and more. With the world getting crazier by the day, it seems, sometimes diving into another world like ‘Bridgerton’ or escaping with sensational storylines like ‘Ozark’ might be what helps us with much-needed breaks here and there.
May we recommend some awesome edibles, concentrates or pre-rolls joints for some awesome view?! Check out our collections and ask your favorite Missouri dispensary if they carry them.
