Cannabis is a fantastic medicine with many positive benefits but to get rid of the marijuana smells isn’t always easy. Being in a state that has legalized medical marijuana, we all know it’s perfectly safe and is often used recreationally to help people relax . Marijuana also has plenty of uses in the medical world, such as reducing chronic pain and relieving nausea in cancer patients.

Whatever reason you use marijuana for though, there’s always one small issue that comes with it – the smell. Marijuana has a powerful smell that can be a pain to get rid of if you have guests coming over or if you just want to freshen up the air. Don’t panic though! There are plenty of things you can do to get rid of marijuana smells in your home, and we’ve come up with a list of five of the most effective ways to do it.

Get rid of marijuana smells by cooking!

One of the best methods to get rid of marijuana smells is to cover it up with another smell, which can be done with ease through cooking! Anything with a distinct, strong smell of its own is good. Putting a bag of popcorn in the microwave, for example, can do a great job of filling your home with a new smell to draw attention from the cannabis. If you let the popcorn burn a little bit, that should help even more. Just remember that small when someone in the office burns popcorn in the microwave! The smell permeates everything! Other options include cooking spicy foods or even food that contains a lot of garlic. Yum!

Not only does all this cooking help cover up the cannabis smell, but it’ll also help satisfy the munchies you get from smoking too! That’s two issues dealt with in one fell swoop.

Deodorizing with air fresheners and scented products

There are lots of products around that are designed to cover up bad smells and replace them with more pleasant ones. Incense burners are one example and have been in use for thousands of years. Incense is made from natural materials, and when burned, it gives off a nice fragrance that can change the atmosphere of a room in seconds.

Candles are also great for covering up smells, and there are even specific ones on the market designed to mask the smell of cannabis. They can burn for hours, depending on the ones you get. Much like incense, candles can be made to give off all kinds of unique scents, so you’re sure to find one you like.

Lastly, you’ve got air fresheners. These don’t require any burning and work by dispensing volatile chemicals into the air which have pleasant odors. You can get ones that function automatically by freshening up the air at regular intervals, or you can get them in the form of a spray can that you manually trigger. Air fresheners are quick and easy to use and can be a lifesaver if you’re trying to hide a smell fast.

Filtering the air with a sploof

A great way to keep the air purified right as the smoke exits your mouth is to use a filter or something known as a ‘sploof’. All you have to do is exhale through the device when you’re smoking. It filters the air passing through it, preventing any bad odors from escaping into the surroundings. Neat, right?

You can make a sploof by yourself at home, using an empty toilet roll with a dryer sheet clamped onto one end. Just exhale through the open end, and voila! No more cannabis  smell in your home. You can even purchase a high-quality sploof online with a built-in filtration system if you’re feeling fancy.

Odor absorbers to get rid of marijuana smells

If you want to get rid of marijuana smells from your home without having to mask it with another scent, then odor absorbers and gels will get the job done. An easy and inexpensive one to use is baking soda. Simply set some out in a shallow bowl and watch as the unpleasant odors in your room start to disappear over time. The worse the smell, the more baking soda you’ll need, so make sure you have enough!

Activated charcoal is great at absorbing smells too, and is even odorless itself.

Ventilation and keeping the odor out of the room

Keeping a room well-ventilated is one of the best ways to get rid of marijuana smells from lingering about. Next time you smoke, try doing it next to an open window or vent. You’ll be surprised at how little smoke enters the room and stinks up the place. If you can limit the amount of cannabis smell that gets in the room in the first place, then you won’t even have to worry about covering it up and deodorizing!

Another important thing to consider is how you store your cannabis . If you leave it out in the open, the smell is going to dissipate into the room even if you’re not smoking. Airtight containers are cheap and provide one of the best ways to store your cannabis safely.

Keeping it fresh

If you don’t want to have to worry about your home smelling like weed, then you can always smoke outdoors where the ventilation is good, and nothing is going to linger. Marijuana is best enjoyed in the privacy of your own home though, so we hope the methods outlined above will help you manage the smell well.

The great thing about cannabis is that there’s also more than one way to enjoy it. If you don’t like smoking or just don’t want to deal with the hassle of containing and masking the smell, then edibles are an option too! Brownies, gummies, and all sorts of other foods can be infused with marijuana and provide the same effects as when you smoke the drug. It’s definitely worth considering switching to edibles if you want to enjoy weed without having to always think of how to get rid of marijuana smells.
